National Apprenticeship Week 2020

This year’s National Apprenticeship Week was held between 3rd-9th February. National Apprenticeship Week brings together both employers and apprentices across the UK and is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate their successes.

Championing Apprenticeships

Our teams visited events across the southeast to spread the word about apprenticeships. We were at City of London’s event on 3rd Feb, making sure that young people to know their options when considering a career in Tech. With apprenticeships in Digital Marketing, Infrastructure & Networking and our recently revamped Level 4 Software Developer apprenticeship, there was plenty to choose from.

But apprenticeship opportunities aren’t just for young people. We were at Hampshire County Council’s event on the 4th February to talk to anyone interested about using apprenticeships to upskill themselves, in areas such as Leadership & Management.

Our #ApprenticeHero campaign saw us celebrating some of the amazing accomplishments of our award-winning learners, including our Apprentices of the Year 2019, Tarj Dhesi and Tom Murray. Tarj and Tom were put forward by their employers, Third Bridge and Fitzrovia respectively, to recognise the huge impact they’ve had on both their companies and their peers.

To top it all off, we held hosted interviews for Tom Williams, a previous Just IT apprentice, who joined Decathlon UK as a Network Engineer 5 years ago.  He’s now working to recruit two apprentices for an exciting EPOS project. What better way to celebrate the success of his apprenticeship, than helping to find the next generation of Tech talent.

Apprenticeships ‘Look Beyond’

The government apprenticeship strategy is one of the key initiatives to drive productivity. Revamped in response to the digital skills gap and dwindling productivity across the UK, the Apprenticeship Levy is recognised as a crucial way to develop the skills needed by employers, by increasing the quality and quantity of apprenticeships in England.

Celebrating the many benefits of apprenticeships, the theme this year was ‘Look Beyond’. This spotlight during National Apprenticeship Week 2020 was focused on the diverse range of apprenticeships available and the communities and apprentices that benefit as a result of them.

Over 900 events, aimed at parents, teachers and individuals, took place across the country during the 13th annual National Apprenticeship Week.

Social media hashtags for the week – #NAW2020 and #LookBeyond – were the no.1 trending topics across the UK on Twitter, supported by the success of our launch day tweet, featuring National Apprenticeship Award winners and advocates of apprenticeships.
