Some people take a trip in order to lie on a postcard-perfect beach or eat a transcendent meal or stand in the presence of one of the Seven Wonders of the World; and then there are those of us who will travel halfway around the world in order to sit in a chair. Of course it's got to be a very special chair. In Copenhagen that more than likely means something by one of the masters of Danish design an Arne Jacobsen or Hans Wegner or Finn Juhl — the sorts of luminary designers whose work Hotel Alexandra has been collecting for the past hundred years or so. The place is like a live-in museum of classic Danish furniture with a special emphasis on mid-century masterpieces. And in spring and summer when the days in this northern city get exceedingly long and everyone emerges from their winter hibernation there's all the more reason to visit.
